Darla started making soap in 2013. Wild Roots Artisan Soaps was born in 2024.

Wild Roots Artisan Soaps began when two friends asked me to teach them how to make
soap. I agreed, even though I hadn't made soap in several years. The moment I crafted
that first batch, I remembered how much I loved it. I was hooked again and needed an
outlet for all the soaps I wanted to create!

My Journey to Creating Natural Skincare Products

I was blessed with sensitive skin. Some may not consider that a blessing, but I do because
it has prevented me from using harsh ingredients on my skin. From makeup to lotions
and soap, I had to be extremely cautious about what I applied to my skin. For many
years, I avoided makeup altogether. However, as I aged and my skin became less than
perfect from the harsh rays of our Texas sun, I began to take an interest in natural skincare products.

My initial foray into commercially available natural products was disappointing. Despite their labels, many contained ingredients that were not truly natural or compatible with my skin. This frustration led me on a journey of research and experimentation, ultimately guiding me to create my own skincare products.

Discovering the Power of Natural Ingredients

Through my research, I discovered a wealth of wonderfully skin-nourishing oils and butters. Some of my favorites include:

  • Shea Butter: Renowned for its deep moisturizing and healing properties.

  • Mango Butter: Packed with vitamins and antioxidants, providing intense hydration.

  • Cocoa Butter: Known for its rich, emollient properties and ability to improve skin elasticity.

  • Olive Oil: A staple in skincare, celebrated for its hydrating and antioxidant benefits.

  • Coconut Oil: Famous for its moisturizing and antibacterial properties.

  • Sunflower Oil: Rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, great for maintaining skin health.

Creating My Own Skincare Products

Using these incredible natural ingredients, I began to formulate my own skincare products. This journey has been both rewarding and eye-opening. By creating my own products, I know exactly what is going onto my skin—no hidden chemicals, no artificial fragrances, just pure, natural goodness.

All-natural Soaps

I love making soap! From formulating the recipes, measuring and mixing the ingredients, to cutting, wrapping, and labeling the finished product, the entire process brings me joy. Watching the raw ingredients transform into beautiful, nourishing bars of goodness is wonderfully satisfying. Knowing that the soaps I create are not only pretty but also truly nourishing to my skin makes it even more rewarding.

Introducing Our Lotion/Massage Candles

One of my favorite creations is our lotion/massage candles. These candles are made with a luxurious blend of coconut/apricot wax, shea butter, mango butter, sunflower oil, and essential oils. When lit, the candle melts into a warm, soothing lotion that can be used for moisturizing or as a massage oil.

The inclusion of essential oils such as lavender, citrus blends, and woodsy blends offers numerous aromatherapy benefits. Lavender is soothing and calming, and can improve sleep quality and quantity; orange, lemon, and lime can improve mood, reduce anxiety, and promote a positive atmosphere; cedarwood is calming and grounding, juniper is detoxifying and purifying, and fir is refreshing and uplifting.

Our Commitment to Your Satisfaction

We are committed to providing the best natural skincare products. That's why we offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. While we do not accept returned merchandise, we are happy to offer store credit for any items that do not meet your expectations.

I invite you to explore our products and experience the benefits of truly natural skincare. Whether you're using our lotion/massage candles or any other product, rest assured that you're treating your skin with the best nature has to offer.

Pure Essential Oils

Using pure essential oils in soap offers several benefits:

  1. Natural Fragrance:
Essential oils provide a natural and aromatic scent without the use of synthetic fragrances, which can sometimes cause irritation or allergic reactions.

  2. Therapeutic Properties:
Many essential oils have therapeutic benefits, such as lavender for relaxation, peppermint for invigoration, and tea tree for its antibacterial properties. These benefits can enhance the overall experience of using the soap.

  3. Skin Benefits:
Essential oils often have properties that benefit the skin, such as anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and moisturizing effects. For example, tea tree oil can help with acne, while chamomile can soothe sensitive skin.

  4. Chemical-Free:
Pure essential oils are free from synthetic chemicals, making them a safer and more natural option for skincare products.

  5. Environmental Impact:
Using essential oils aligns with eco-friendly practices as they are derived from natural plant sources, reducing the environmental impact compared to synthetic alternatives.

  6. Aromatherapy:
The use of essential oils in soap can contribute to the practice of aromatherapy, where inhaling the natural scents can positively affect mood and well-being.

Clays and Charcoal

Using clays and charcoal in soap offers several benefits:

  1. Deep Cleansing:

    • Clays: Clays like kaolin and French green clay are highly absorbent and can draw out impurities, excess oil, and toxins from the skin, providing a deep cleanse.

    • Charcoal: Activated charcoal has a porous structure that helps to trap and lift away impurities, dirt, and oil from the skin, making it an effective detoxifier.

  2. Exfoliation:

    • Both clays and charcoal have gentle exfoliating properties, helping to remove dead skin cells and promote a smoother, more radiant complexion.

  3. Oil Control:

    • Clays: Clays are especially beneficial for oily and acne-prone skin as they help to absorb excess sebum without stripping the skin of its natural moisture.

    • Charcoal: Charcoal helps balance oily skin by removing excess oil and preventing clogged pores, which can reduce the occurrence of acne.

  4. Soothing and Healing:

    • Clays: Many clays have anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe irritated skin and reduce redness, making them suitable for sensitive skin types.

    • Charcoal: Charcoal's detoxifying properties can help in soothing skin irritations and can aid in the healing process of minor cuts, bites, and wounds.

  5. Improved Skin Texture:

    • Regular use of soap containing clays or charcoal can improve the overall texture of the skin, making it feel softer and smoother.

  6. Natural and Non-Toxic:

    • Clays and charcoal are natural ingredients, free from synthetic chemicals and additives, making them a safer and more environmentally friendly option for skincare products.

  7. Added Minerals:

    • Clays: Clays are rich in minerals like silica, magnesium, calcium, and potassium, which can provide additional nourishment and benefits to the skin.

Oils and Butters

Using plant-based oils and butters in soap offers numerous benefits, enhancing both the soap's quality and the user's experience. Here are the key advantages:

1. Natural Moisturization:

  • Oils: Plant-based oils such as olive oil, coconut oil, and avocado oil are excellent for moisturizing the skin. They help to lock in moisture, preventing dryness and maintaining the skin’s natural hydration.

  • Butters: Shea butter, cocoa butter, and mango butter are rich in fatty acids and vitamins that provide deep moisturization, leaving the skin feeling soft and supple.

2. Nourishment and Skin Health:

  • These oils and butters are packed with vitamins (like A, D, E, and F), antioxidants, and essential fatty acids that nourish the skin and promote its overall health. For instance, shea butter is rich in vitamins A and E, which help in skin repair and regeneration.

3. Skin Protection:

  • Many plant-based oils and butters create a protective barrier on the skin, shielding it from environmental pollutants and harsh weather conditions. Cocoa butter, for example, helps to protect the skin from dryness and damage.

4. Improved Soap Texture and Lather:

  • Oils: Coconut oil creates a rich, bubbly lather, while olive oil provides a creamy and gentle feel. These properties enhance the overall texture and user experience of the soap.

  • Butters: Shea and cocoa butter contribute to a luxurious, creamy texture that makes the soap more pleasant to use.

5. Suitability for Different Skin Types:

  • A variety of plant-based oils and butters can be combined to address different skin types. Jojoba oil, which closely resembles the skin’s natural sebum, is ideal for oily skin, while shea butter is perfect for dry, dehydrated skin.

6. Natural and Sustainable:

  • Plant-based oils and butters are biodegradable, eco-friendly, and align with sustainable skincare practices. They are less likely to cause irritation compared to synthetic ingredients and are often sourced from renewable resources.

7. Ethical and Cruelty-Free:

  • Using plant-based oils and butters supports ethical skincare practices, as they are cruelty-free and often produced under fair trade conditions, contributing to better working conditions and sustainable livelihoods for farmers.
